Custom-Made to Your Exact Specifications: How Our Insulated Backflow Covers Are Built for Superior Protection

At TheBackflowCover.com, every insulated backflow cover is made to order—crafted specifically to your equipment’s exact dimensions and requirements. We’ve been delivering custom-fit, high-performance covers since 2012, designed to provide reliable freeze protection for backflow preventers, exposed pipes, well heads, and other outdoor plumbing devices. Here’s a look at how we build each cover to meet your precise needs and stand up to the toughest winter conditions.

Premium Materials Chosen for Longevity and Performance

We start with the best materials available to ensure maximum durability and insulation:
  • Outer Shell: 22oz. UV- and fire-retardant polyvinyl-coated mesh fabric—twice the weight and thickness of the 11oz. material commonly used by competitors. This tough, waterproof fabric resists dirt, mildew, oil, salt, chemicals, and UV degradation. It won’t tear, stretch, crack, rot, or mildew, even after years of outdoor exposure.
  • Insulation Core: High-efficiency fiberglass matte rated R-13 to R-30. Insulation is cut in full, continuous pieces to eliminate gaps that could allow cold air penetration and cause freeze-ups. For maximum protection in severe climates, upgrade to R-30 is available on request.
  • Sewing Thread: Double-stitched UV-resistant nylon thread that holds strong through repeated seasons of wind, rain, snow, and sun.
These premium components create a rugged, weather-tight cover built for long-term outdoor use.

Built to Order: Precision Construction Every Step of the Way

Each cover is custom-manufactured to match your specific backflow preventer or plumbing device:
  • Every seam is double-stitched with UV-resistant thread to create a complete seal against wind, moisture, and ice.
  • Select models include additional rivets along side seams for extra reinforcement and split resistance.
  • Pre-installed grommets let you secure the cover with a lock to deter theft and keep it firmly in place during storms.
  • Custom options such as extra grommets or Velcro closures are available for devices that need partial access (open top or side panels for maintenance or inspections).
The insulation is precisely cut and placed in whole sections—no pieced-together patches—so there are no weak points or cold bridges that could compromise protection.
The result is a perfectly fitted, heavy-duty cover that installs easily, protects reliably, and lasts for years.

Backed by Our 5 Year Warranty

We confidently stand behind every cover we make. Each product is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use for 5 years from the date of original shipment. If any defect appears during that time, we’ll replace or recondition it at no charge.

When you order from TheBackflowCover.com, you get a truly custom-made product built to your exact specifications—not a one-size-fits-all compromise.

How to Protect Your Backflow Preventer from Freeze Damage this Winter!

1/20/2026

Winter has arrived in full force, and with it comes the real risk of freeze damage to your outdoor plumbing—especially your backflow preventer. These devices, essential for keeping your irrigation or water system safe and compliant, sit above ground and are particularly vulnerable to dropping temperatures. When water inside freezes and expands, it can crack valves, burst pipes, and lead to leaks, costly repairs, or even system failure. In many cases, a single hard freeze is all it takes to cause thousands in damage.
The good news? You can prevent most freeze-related issues with proper preparation. Here's a practical guide to safeguarding your backflow preventer and keeping your system running smoothly all season long.
Step 1: Winterize Your System (Drain and Blow Out) The first line of defense is removing water from the lines:
  • Shut off the main water supply to your irrigation or backflow system.
  • Open drain valves (petcocks) on the backflow preventer to let trapped water escape.
  • Use compressed air to blow out remaining water from the lines and device (this is especially important for irrigation systems).
  • Close valves after draining to prevent re-entry of moisture.
Even with draining, some residual water can linger in valves and fittings—making insulation the next critical step.
Step 2: Insulate ProperlyBasic foam pipe insulation works for exposed pipes, but for the backflow preventer itself, a full, secure cover is far more effective. Wrap foam around pipes and valves completely (don't stop short—cover every exposed section), then secure with tape.
For the best protection, opt for a dedicated insulated cover designed specifically for backflow preventers. These provide thick, multi-layer insulation that seals out wind, snow, and extreme cold while allowing easy access for inspections.
Why Choose a Premium Custom Insulated Cover? Generic wraps or makeshift solutions (like towels and trash bags) can shift, let in moisture, or fail under prolonged freezes. A high-quality custom backflow cover offers:
  • Thick, heavy-duty insulation rated for sub-zero temps
  • Precise fit that eliminates gaps and seals tightly
  • Durable, weather-resistant materials that last for years
  • Easy on/off design for seasonal use or maintenance
At TheBackflowCover.com, we've been crafting these superior custom insulated covers since 2008. Our covers are tailored to fit any backflow preventer—standard or unique configurations—providing reliable freeze protection without the hassle of ill-fitting alternatives.

Additional Tips for Complete Protection

  • Insulate all exposed pipes leading to and from the backflow device.
  • Consider protective enclosures for extreme climates (though custom covers often suffice for most areas).
  • Check your setup before every cold snap—secure any loose insulation.
  • If damage does occur, act fast to minimize water loss and further issues.
Protecting your backflow preventer isn't just about avoiding repairs—it's about maintaining water safety, system efficiency, and peace of mind through the winter.

Winter is Here: Protect Your Backflow Preventers and Exposed Pipes from Freeze Damage

As the temperatures drop and winter firmly takes hold, one silent threat looms for homeowners and property managers alike: frozen pipes and backflow preventers. Even a single night of sub-freezing weather can cause trapped water to expand, leading to cracked valves, burst pipes, and expensive repairs. The damage isn't just inconvenient—it can flood your yard, disrupt your water supply, and cost thousands to fix.

Don't wait for the first hard freeze to act. Protecting your backflow preventers, exposed outdoor pipes, well heads, and other vulnerable plumbing is easier—and far cheaper—than dealing with the aftermath.

Why Quality Insulation Matters

Many people grab whatever blankets or basic foam they have on hand, but generic solutions often fall short in prolonged cold. Water can still seep in, insulation can shift, or coverage can be incomplete, leaving critical components exposed.

That's where premium, custom-fitted insulated covers come in. At TheBackflowCover.com, we specialize in high-quality insulated backflow covers designed specifically to shield your backflow prevention devices from freezing temperatures. Our covers are custom-made to fit any size or shape—large, small, or anything in between—providing superior protection that can withstand extreme cold.

What sets our covers stitches above the rest?
  • Heavy-duty insulation for reliable freeze protection
  • Precise custom fits that seal out wind, snow, and ice
  • Durable materials built to last season after season
  • Proven performance in real-world conditions

Why do I do what I do?

My family.  Point blank.  MY FAMILY!

I have been married twelve years to the love of my life.  We have three children, from ages six to twenty!

Having a wife that supports my business bent and adventuresome spirit is a life-changer.  Every man should be so blessed.

I work a lot.  I work hard.  I am a go-getter.  I am an entrepreneur.

I want the best, but its really not about me.  It is more about them than me!  I get a lot of joy thinking that my serving passion through business results in good things for their lives.

They matter supremely to me.  They are my motivation.

I do what I do for my family.

What are your biggest motivators?  I would love to know.

Happy Holidays!

How Much Is Too Much For An Insulated Quality Backflow Cover?

12/8/2020

Just this last week I talked to a customer who needed a very large insulated backflow cover.  He had some “sticker-shock” when I quoted him a price.  He wasn’t expecting to spend so much.  His need was for a very large cover.

Which brings up a very great question:  How much is too much for a quality insulated backflow cover?  Let's talk about it...

It was more pricey than what he was expecting.  He didn’t buy.  But, here’s what he didn’t understand.
  1. He didn’t understand the quality of our cover.  We use synthetic insulation instead of the old fiberglass which comes apart and separates over time, reducing its capacity to insulate.  The outer shell is a rugged, UV and fire-resistant vinyl fabric, stitched together with heavy-duty double stitched mini-rope!
  2. He will be replacing a cheaper cover much sooner, making his costs even higher.  In the end he will pay more.

IF the backflow device cover you are buying lasts two, and even three times longer than a cheaper version, EVEN THOUGH THE INITIAL COST IS HIGHER, IT COULD COST YOU LESS IN THE LONG RUN.

So, how much is too much to pay for a quality insulated backflow cover?  The answer:  Consider how long a cheaper version is going to last you!

Let's talk, email me, be informed!

When Should I Have A Backflow Cover?

12/1/2020

A very common question I get is, when should I have a backflow cover?  My response is always the same:  IMMEDIATELY AFTER INSTALLATION OF YOUR BACKFLOW PREVENTER!

I always advise clients and potential clients that covering their device will improve on its longevity.   Why does this matter? Because repairs are costly, freeze damaged housing is extremely costly to replace.  Here in Florida, it takes $650 to $1,000 to replace a residential back flow preventer.  Spending a little bit now saves a LOT in the long run.

I have found that people are VERY quick to buy a back flow cover AFTER they have a problem.  AND, by then, they are sorry.  How many times has a customer said, “I wish I would have talked to you sooner.”    I have advised customers who didn’t listen, only for them to return, realizing the mistake they made, AND the money it cost them.

When should I have a backflow cover? IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF YOUR BACKFLOW PREVENTER!

When Should I Cover My Backflow Preventer?

11/24/2020

Most people think a back flow cover is only for winter time.  But, I tell my customers to leave it on ALL YEAR LONG!!

They are glad to hear it!  When I tell them that they can set it and forget it, they are ecstatic!

Most people wonder if leaving the back flow cover on through all the seasons is OK?

Not only it is ok, but preferable.  Keeping your cover on all year keeps your back flow preventer from taking the brunt of the elements.  Instead of wearing your expensive device out, allow your back flow cover to do what it was made to do:  Take on the elements!

When should I cover my back flow preventer?  ALL YEAR!

The REAL Cost of NOT Having A Backflow Cover

11/17/2020

If you are lucky, your backflow can be repaired after freeze damage... Hope you caught that... IF you are lucky.

If you are lucky, and the technician can fix it, it will cost you a couple of hundred bucks. If you are unlucky... You will have to have it replaced FOR A WHOLE LOT MORE!

Not to mention... When your backflow device freezes, it will be on a very cold morning when you and your family did not plan on being without water.

Great backflow covers protect against freezing and allow you a worry-free winter!

I have had customers call me up and tell me how their backflow device and my cover were covered in freezing snow yet their device was still working wonderfully.

The real cost of NOT having a backflow cover? Can be quite high!
